RAISE YOUR DIGITAL KID™
A course for parents & teachers who are ready to take the wonderful kids we already have and turn them into balanced, safe, wise, and kind online
LEADERS AND CHANGE MAKERS
I don't know about you, but when I first tried to wrap my brain around how much our kids are exposed to online, it felt like a whirlwind of information that was moving much too fast.
And honestly? It kind of made me want to curl up and ignore it all. Maybe it would just go away?
But I have learned in the last few years of studying kids, cell phones, and social media, that sometimes all it takes to go from overwhelm to peace of mind, is a change in perspective.
It isn't always easy to know how to start shifting, but when we do, we see that what at first seems new, vast, confusing, and overwhelming ...
Has a system to it.
And it's understanding this system, that can give you the peace of mind that you want and need.
Hi, I'm Galit. I'm a mom, a teacher, a TEDx speaker, an author, and a researcher. If the phrases "kids online" and "kids with cell phones" don't quite conjure the same peaceful feelings for you as this beach scene does, grab a cup coffee and stay awhile. I can help.
RAISE YOUR DIGITAL KID™ is a step by step course that clarifies everything you need to create a system in your home OR CLASSROOM to teach kids to be BALANCED, safe, wise, and kind online leaders and change makers.
That's a mouthful, isn't it?
But I think it's what we all want for our kids. At first blush, it's about keeping their screen time balanced with "real life." And when we dig deeper and see how big and wide the Internet makes their world, we want to keep them safe there. And once we feel okay about that, we realize that we don't just want them to be okay while they're maneuvering online, we want them to be amazing.
Raise Your Digital Kid™ is my step-by-step system for doing all of the above.
For your kids, it's how they will go from ...
Muddling through, to understanding your bottom lines so that they can maneuver online safely, wisely, and kindly.
Trying to figure everything out as they go, to having you as a resource and as someone who they can talk to about anything and everything that comes their way so that they don't have to go at this alone.
And seeing their cell phone use and who they are online as something private or secretive or undefined and parameter-less, to understanding how the internet was really meant to be used, which is as a reflection of their everyday, so that they enjoy the amazing and fun resources at their (literal) fingertips.
And for you, it's how you will go from ...
Confusion, to clarity.
Overwhelm, to organization.
Knee-jerk reacting, to teaching.
Crossing your fingers that things will work themselves out, to having a system in place that ensures that they do.
So that you can enjoy this wonderful age, keep connecting with your amazing kids, and learn right alongside them, all at the same time.
A lot of people think that raising great digital kids is about age restrictions, app guidelines, and screen time limits. But it's not.
It's about creating an open, honest way of discussing all things cell phone and social media related, starting with the basics and leading into the trickier, harder-to-broach topics.
It's also about opening the conversation before you need it, so when you do, the foundation is laid, the system is in place, and the door is wide open for your kids to come talk to you (and vice versa).
Two years ago I said, "no way," to my daughter when she asked for an Instagram account, moments after I was scrolling through my own account! I was scared and worried and I fell back to a knee-jerk reaction when she asked for this app.
But I quickly realized that this wasn't the right way to do things. If I wanted my kids to be open and honest with me, then this is how I needed to be with them.
So I tried something different instead.
I trial-ed and error-ed (a lot).
I tested what worked (and absolutely found out what doesn't).
And I came up with a system that not only works, but is 100% replicable. I want to give that to you.
When you sign up for Raise Your Digital Kid™, you get:
- 4 thorough, step-by-step core modules
- 1 bonus module
- Video trainings
- Comprehensive, clear lesson plans* and directions
- Actual scripts you can steal
- Workbooks, guide books, checklists, and calendars to keep you on track
- Visuals and examples galore
- I don't just tell you what to do, I show you.
*Did it give you pause that I said lesson plans? This is the magic sauce of Raise Your Digital Kid™. I know firsthand that what works in classrooms, works in homes.
So RYDK™ is filled with step-by-step, actionable directions (lesson plans) that have been tried and tested (by me) and are ready for you to implement today (because why wait until tomorrow?).
This is what the course looks like on the inside:
Once your system is in place, you'll be able to build on this foundation with every conversation that you have.
No more starting over every time your kid wants to use a new app. No more overwhelm. No more crossed fingers. Just a replicable, easy to use system, that you can all count on and connect while using—every single day.
You will leave this course with:
- The easiest and simplest strategy to use to teach your kids and students what they need to know in a way that they will understand so that they will be able to utilize this all immediately.
- Quick, direct, and laser-focused conversation outlines so that you don't have to spend a lot of time figuring out what topics you need to discuss while you're still starting out and it feels like there is so much to cover. I've been there, done that. Let me show you what I found out firsthand.
- Working ongoing dialogue and consequence + fix systems in place so that your conversation remains open and everyone knows what to expect if (when!) mistakes happen.
- A proven sequence of conversations to have with kids about online safety, wisdom, and kindness so that you can focus on what you really want to be doing, which is connecting with them and helping them make wise choices online.
- The skills to replicate this system for all future tricky conversations—trust me, they're coming—so that you don't have to start over every time they try a new app or gain a new follower.
- A whole lot less worrying and nagging and a whole lot more teaching and connecting so that you might even get a thank you text or two from your kids. Maybe. :)
Nothing that I share with you is based on theory or opinion. I have tested every strategy, every example from the media, every printable. I don't have access to any expensive tools or fancy guest speakers who come to our family meetings. I just have a system that works, and I want to give it to you. This is the real deal.
Your course includes these bonuses:
1. Access to our 24/7 live group chat where you can connect with other parents and teachers so that you can sort through all of the things that come with having a digital kid within a community. It's easier to zoom out of our emotions and refocus on what's important when we have like minded people to bounce ideas off of. We've got you.
2. Behind the scenes access to three workshops with thought leaders about their digital ed topics. These are heavy hitting issues that, yes, absolutely effect all of our kids, and these experts share their blueprints for how they teach their own kids so that you can teach yours with ease. The best way to get from the hard part to the good part is to take one step at a time. I want to help you take that first step.
3. Printables galore and lifetime access to all of the course materials so that you always have exactly what you need. Every cheat sheet, script, checklist, and resource is yours and if anything at all changes on the Internet (which of course it will) or in best practice methodology or I learn something new or I have a workshop with a new thought leader that I think you need to see, I will simply update the course, let you know that the new material is there, and you will have instant and free access to it all—for forever. I want you to succeed here because success looks like a better and safer internet for all of us and for our kids and I know that the best way to do that is to help you feel organized, prepared, calm and ready. Remember that beach scene feeling? I want that for you when you think about your kids being online.
Frequently Asked Questions
+ Why should I pay for this course when I can find tons of free advice online?
It's true. There is a lot of free information out there. When my kids first asked to be online I waded through all of that free information, too. I started to read so many blog posts and eBooks and guides about it—and they all said the same things. The same 5 ways to keep your kids off line as much as possible and to monitor their use whenever you do allow them to be online. I tried reading them all, I even tried to follow the advice of the first dozen or so, but I had to stop because not only were they all the same, but none of them worked for me. And more importantly, those strategies weren't even in line with what I wanted from my parenting and teaching—which was to keep the conversation lines reciprocal and wide open. I didn't want to scare my kids, I wanted to teach them how to use the internet safely, wisely, and kindly so that they could enjoy the amazing things available to them and I could stop worrying. You won't get that from a free blog post.
+ What age group is this for?
The target age group is 2nd-5th grades, with a “halo” around our tweens (middle schoolers) who are already online. In an ideal world, we want to start these conversations with our kids as young as possible, so the foundations are laid when we need them to be. The reality is that many of our kids are already online, and that’s okay. We just need to approach them a little differently; I’ll show you how to do this!
+ My kids are REALLY young. Is this course just for parents of older kids?
Oh friend, you are so in the right place. I wish I had been as smart and mindful about these things when my kids were younger. If you start now, this is just how these systems will be in your home. You will not have to unteach any bad habits like I did. Although I can't promise anything about the need to reteach, because kids. :) And that's one reason why I offer lifetime access to the information and any and all updates that I make to the course. I've got you.
+ The only real issue we have right now is figuring out how much access to give our kids on their devices. We haven't had any problems, she has really great friends.
Only preparing oursleves for the, "are they spending too much time online?" question is short sighted. Harsh, but true. Here's why: It would be like only teaching our kids how to crawl, but not walk; swim with floaties, but not on their own; ride a bike with training wheels, but not without; hold our hand to cross the street, but not look both ways when they’re crossing on their own. It’s the first step, not the only step. Our kids need to be taught balance, of course. But this is a small part of teaching them how the internet was meant to be used. They need to be taught what they should post and what they definitely shouldn’t. What to share with friends. How quickly friendships and inner circles change. And how quickly what they share can spread and be misinterpreted. And how impossible it is to take a post back once it’s out there—in a post, a text, or in a private message. Because the ramifications of not teaching our kids how permanent their posts are are long term. So we start these conversations while our kids are young. We begin by laying the foundation for how the internet is meant to be used with conversations not about how much time they’re spending online, but about what they’re doing while they’re on there. Then we keep those conversation doors wide open so they’re there when we need them.
+ Why should I start an ongoing conversation about this? My kid would never make mistakes like these.
Kids are wired to make mistakes. Period. Do you remember being young and impulsive and feeling 100% invincible? Our kids and students feel exactly the same way, except that they're armed with a tool that gives them and their mistakes access to a much wider world than we ever had, and the wide world access to them in a way that never affected us. This is your chance to learn exactly what you need to do in order to keep your kids safe online and stay close and relevant to them—at the same time. "My kid would never" is simply not true. For anyone.
+ Is this course exactly 30 days?
Actually, no. If you are feeling the urgency to get through the material quickly and get this information implemented right away—like if something has already gone wrong with cell phone use with your kids or students, for example—you can absolutely power through every lesson in 30 days. But you have lifetime access to the course, the materials, and any updates. This course is meant to meet you where you and your kids and students are and is 100% self paced.
+ What if I don’t have time to start it right now?
That’s a-okay. The course, the materials, the videos, the bonuses, your support system, your peers, me—everything—will be here when you’re ready to start. If you want to join now and take advantage of the 24/7 live group chat today and dive in more deeply into the rest of the materials later, you absolutely can.
+ Would I be free to share what I learn from your course with students and other parents?
You can absolutely learn the information and teach it to your kids and students. I hope that you do! The only things you can't do is share your password with peers or teach the information as your own.
+ Who is this course really for?
If you're just starting down this path and you want to do it the right way or if you've tried everything—read the eBooks and the vague blog posts, pinned the pretty pictures and infographics on Pinterest—but you're still closer to wondering and worrying about your kids and their online use (how much is too much? how safe is safe? etc), this is for you.
Parents and teachers who want to reclaim and be a part of the conversation around how the internet was really meant to be used.
Parents and teachers who want to be and raise leaders and change makers.
Parents and teachers who don't want to mess around, waste time, or cross their fingers that their kids will figure this all out by themselves, and want to start on the right path with the right strategies to get everyone on track fast.
+ What if this course doesn't work for me?
My strategies work only if you do. If you take this course, fill out the workbooks, participate in the private group, implement all my strategies, and haven't seen results within 14 days, then submit your evidence and I will give you your money back.
+ Why should I buy this right now?
This course teaches you my proven system for creating an ongoing dialogue with your kids and students about their cell phone and social media use. It has been two years in the making. The results of all of my trial and errors, experimenting and learning is available to you. Don't let tomorrow turn into next week, next month, or next year. Start turning your kids and students into safe, wise, and kind digital kids today.
